INTRODUCTION

 


 

 

On the occasion of the convening of the 50th Anniversary Event of the signing of the Helsinki Accords by the Finnish Chairpersonship July 29-30, 2025 at Finlandia Hall, a number of ngo repreesentatives offered presentations on the themes of peace and security for the event in answer to an open call.

Many of the proposals, possibly most, we either sidelined as brief panel comments or denied. 

This blog includes some of the latter, presenters and presentations from the USA, Finland, The Ukraine and Russia.

 

These were discussed at an autonomous NGO Helsinki+50 Roundtable convened at The University of Helsinki July 29th chaired by Ahti Tolvanen, conference observer for The Finnish Society of Friends (Quakers). Also on the Roundtable Committee were Bruce Knotts and Al Mytty. Their background organizations are found in their presentations. Serving as local liason were Climate Reality Leaders Finland and The Forum for Foreigh Scholars in Finland r.y.

The Cost and Benefit of War

Presenter: Al Mytty, USA, World Beyond War: Spending money on the military is not an efficient way to create jobs.
